Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
Lagoon is built with your privacy in mind. Your data stays on your device - always.
π Overview
The short version: Lagoon does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Everything stays on your device.
Lagoon is a night sky planning app for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and - most importantly - what we never collect or share.
π Location data
Lagoon uses your device's GPS to calculate which astronomical objects are visible from your position - including altitude, horizon clearance, and Bortle index. This is core to the app's functionality.
Your location is never sent to our servers. It is processed entirely on-device, in real time, and is not stored beyond your current session unless you explicitly save an observation site.
Saved sites are stored locally on your device (and in your iCloud, see below) and are never transmitted to us.
π Third-party APIs
To provide weather forecasts, atmospheric data, and Pro purchase management, Lagoon connects to third-party services. These requests may include your approximate coordinates or identifiers related to your purchase. The services we use are listed below.
These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We do not share any personally identifying information beyond what is strictly necessary for the relevant service to function.
π³ Purchases & subscriptions
Lagoon uses RevenueCat to manage Pro purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your purchase history and an anonymous identifier tied to your app installation, used to validate purchases and unlock the corresponding Pro features.
RevenueCat acts as a data processor on Lagoon's behalf and does not use this information for advertising purposes. No payment information (card numbers, etc.) ever passes through RevenueCat or Lagoon - this remains handled exclusively by Apple.
βοΈ iCloud sync
Lagoon can sync your observation logs, saved sites, and personal photos across your Apple devices using your personal iCloud account. This is enabled by default and available to all users, regardless of plan. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's privacy policy. Lagoon has no access to your iCloud data.
π· Photos & camera
Lagoon can access your photo library and camera if you choose to attach personal photos to observation logs or object records in the catalogue. This permission is only requested when you initiate a photo action. Photos are stored locally on your device.
π Analytics & crash reporting
Lagoon does not use any third-party advertising or marketing tracking SDKs. The RevenueCat service, used for subscription management (see "Purchases & subscriptions" above), generates aggregated purchase-related statistics, but this is never used to identify you individually for advertising purposes.
If Apple's standard crash reporting is enabled on your device (through iOS settings), Apple may share anonymised crash logs with us via App Store Connect. This is managed entirely by Apple and follows Apple's privacy framework.
βοΈ Your rights
Since Lagoon does not process any personal data on its own servers, there is no data to access, rectify, or delete on our end. Your local data can be removed at any time directly from the app or by uninstalling Lagoon.
For any questions related to your iCloud data, please contact Apple directly.
πΆ Children's privacy
Lagoon does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app is suitable for all ages.
