🔭 Overview

Lagoon is a night sky planning app for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and - most importantly - what we never collect or share.

📍 Location data

Lagoon uses your device's GPS to calculate which astronomical objects are visible from your position - including altitude, horizon clearance, and Bortle index. This is core to the app's functionality.

Your location is never sent to our servers. It is processed entirely on-device, in real time, and is not stored beyond your current session unless you explicitly save an observation site.

Saved sites are stored locally on your device (and optionally in your iCloud, see below) and are never transmitted to us.

🌐 Third-party APIs

To provide weather forecasts and atmospheric data, Lagoon connects to third-party services. These requests include your approximate coordinates. The services we use are listed below.

These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We do not share any identifying information - only the coordinates required to fulfil the request.

☁️ iCloud sync (Pro)

Pro subscribers can optionally enable iCloud sync to back up and sync observation logs, saved sites, and personal photos across their Apple devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's privacy policy. Lagoon has no access to your iCloud data.

📷 Photos & camera

Lagoon can access your photo library and camera if you choose to attach personal photos to observation logs or object records in the catalogue. This permission is only requested when you initiate a photo action. Photos are stored locally on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, in your private iCloud.

📊 Analytics & crash reporting

Lagoon does not use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not track usage patterns, sessions, or in-app behaviour.

If Apple's standard crash reporting is enabled on your device (through iOS settings), Apple may share anonymised crash logs with us via App Store Connect. This is managed entirely by Apple and follows Apple's privacy framework.

⚖️ Your rights

Since Lagoon does not process any personal data on its own servers, there is no data to access, rectify, or delete on our end. Your local data can be removed at any time directly from the app or by uninstalling Lagoon.

👶 Children's privacy

Lagoon does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app is suitable for all ages.
